Health Insurance
If you would like to receive assistance from the Welcome Desk team in your health insurance registration, make an appointment at the SAIEC.
Who needs to register for health insurance, and why?
Health insurance (sécurité sociale) is compulsory and free for all international students residing in France for more than 3 months (international students from non-EU countries and international students from EU countries without a European Health Insurance Card - EHIC).
The health insurance system allows students to be refunded a part of their healthcare costs.
How do I register for health insurance?
1/ Go to the website ameli.fr
2/ Fill out the information requested on the home page and complete your personal details.
3/ Submit the required documents to obtain your temporary identification number (NIA)
4/ Once all documents have been submitted, you can create your account.
5/ Once I've received the e-mail, you can download your temporary health insurance certificate.
You can also check out the tutorial prepared by the French health insurance company (Assurance Maladie) outlining the various stages of registration.
Supplementary health insurance
It is not obligatory to have a complementary health insurance (mutuelle), but you will be refunded the rest of the costs not covered by health insurance. This insurance will be in your charge.
You can join the complementary health insurance (complémentaire santé solidaire) offered by CPAM (health insurance) or another student health insurance (HEYME, LMDE, etc.).
