Renewal
If your visa validated on arrival in France or your residence permit is about to expire, you need to apply for renewal.
If you would like to receive assistance from the Welcome Desk team, make an appointment at the SAIEC.
Student residence permit
To apply for a renewal of your student residence permit, go to the official website (ANEF), at least two months before the expiry of the residence permit.
1/ Put together your file with the following list of documents.
2/ Take an appointment at the SAIEC if you wish to be accompanied in submitting your application
3/ After checking your file, you will be accompanied to submit your application online on ANEF.
Residence permit for French trainees
Applications for renewal of an " foreigners trainee" residence permit must be submitted to the SAIEC.
1/ Put together your file with the following list of documents.
2/ Take an appointment at the SAIEC
3/ Once your file has been checked, you can drop it off at the SAIEC, which will forward it to the Préfecture de l'Hérault.
Residence permit "Recherche d'emploi et création d'entreprise" (RECE) or "Autorisation provisoire de séjour" (APS)
To be eligible for the RECE or APS residence permit, you must hold a " professional degree " or a degree at least equivalent to a Master's degree.
This permit allows you to stay in France for one year in order to find a job or set up a business related to your studies and/or research. This card authorizes you to carry out any professional activity for the duration of its validity, without having to apply for a work permit.
NB: Depending on your nationality, you can apply for either an APS (Autorisation Provisoire de Séjour) or a RECE (Carte de Séjour RECE) residence permit.
APS: only for citizens of the following countries: Senegal, Gabon, Benin, Tunisia, Mauritius, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, Lebanon, India.
RECE: for all other nationalities
Terms and conditions :
- Be a foreign student (except Algerian students) with a residence permit marked "ÉTUDIANT" or "CHERCHEUR".
- have graduated (or will soon graduate) from a French establishment of higher education with a degree at least equivalent to the Master's degree, or one of the degrees appearing on a list established by French Government.
Application for RECE or APS :
1/ Put together your file with the following list of documents.
2/ Take an appointment at the SAIEC if you wish to be accompanied in submitting your application
3/ Once your file has been checked, you will be accompanied to submit your application online on Démarches Simplifiées.
On expiry of the "job search" card :
You can apply to change your status and obtain a "PASSEPORT TALENT" or "SALARIÉ"/"TRAVAILLEUR TEMPORAIRE" residence permit, depending on your situation. Please note that you can no longer apply for “student”residence permit.
If you find a job and obtain a work permit, you can submit your application 2 months beforehand at Démarches Simplifiées. There's no need to wait for your residence permit to expire before applying.
Changes of address or marital status, duplicate (lost/stolen) OR new passport
If you have lost your residence permit, or if your address is no longer valid, it expires :
- In less than 3 months: you must notify ANEF of the change/loss when you submit your application to renew your residence permit.
- In more than 3 months: you should request a modification of your residence permit by following the steps below:

2/ Take an appointment at the SAIEC if you wish to be accompanied in submitting your application.
3/ After checking your file, you will be accompanied to submit your application online on ANEF.
