Your Euraxess service center can assist you in opening a bank account when you arrive in Montpellier, by providing you with privileged branch contacts: negotiated offers and an English-speaking contact person.

Opening a bank account is one of the very first things you need to do when you arrive in France. This will enable you to withdraw cash from ATMs or receive money (a salary, a grant, etc.).

It will also enable you to be refunded medical expenses once you have registered with the Caisse primaire d'assurance maladie (CPAM), or to benefit from housing social assistance (CAF) if you are eligible.

NB: You won't be able to open a bank account from abroad if you're coming to France for a temporary stay. In the 2nd case, it is recommended that you negotiate the payment of your salary into the bank account in your country of origin before your departure.
